Ormidale Mill House is situated on a 21 acre estate which is home to three large holiday houses, a staff cottage and an indoor swimming pool which is shared between the three houses. The estate's woodland walks extend into 1000s of acres of forestry commission land. The immediate area is just beautiful - it's a great valley to explore on foot or by bike - but a drive in any direction opens up new and gorgeous vistas.
The Cowal Peninsula with its stunning scenery is a mere hour and a half from Glasgow. Take the ferry to Dunoon and then enjoy everything the area has to offer; not only the scenery but the friendly people, the historic locations and all the exciting activities. The Cowal Peninsula has held onto its unique identity which is reflected in its towns and villages, the various arts and crafts and some world famous events held throughout the year.
The area is renowned for its sailing, fishing and stalking but is best known as a mecca for walkers, climbers and cyclists. Within 40 minutes drive from the Ormidale estate there are 4 golf courses, a quad biking and clay-pigeon shooting centre, a riding school and two outdoor adventure centres. Bikes and golf clubs are available for guests to use.
From Colintraive it is possible to take the ferry over to the Isle of Bute where you can enjoy its many tourist attractions including Rothesay, Mount Stuart, numerous gardens and the fabulous sandy beaches. Dunoon is just half an hour away and well worth a visit where you can explore the castle and the wildlife park. A little further afield is Inveraray with its famous castle, jail, harbour and Rob Roy heritage centre: a great day out and a chance to stop off at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar on the way. Loch Lomond is also within easy reach. You are spoiled for choice for genuinely fabulous restaurants, within 20 minutes you can find the Oyster Catcher, Inver Cottage, An Lochan and Colintraive Hotel.

The Mill House at Ormidale took two and a half years to restore, at a cost of over half a million pounds, and was christened by its first guests as 'the wow factory.' With rooms on four levels, it will accommodate up to 14 adults, and up to 22 guests in total, in real style and luxury. The main feature is the open plan 80m2 ground floor reception area which opens up from a fabulous kitchen, through the dining area with vaulted ceiling, into a generous living/lounging area. The dining and sitting room areas feature the original exposed stone wall with a large glass archway incorporating the main entrance into the courtyard. It's a stunning room, and the natural communal gathering place for any party that takes both The Mill House and Old Barn at Ormidale. The two matching dining tables can be placed end to end to enable you to sit down and eat in one place as a party of 24.
The contemporary staircase in the centre of the arch gives a natural focus and pulpit like performance space for speeches or ceremonies! All the reception areas on ground and mezzanine levels are tiled in a natural riven slate which goes beautifully with the old stone walls and new white plaster walls, with underfloor heating throughout the house provided by an environmentally sustainable ground source heat pump.
The large stylish contemporary kitchen area features a granite work surface throughout, twin stainless steel sinks and two dishwashers, two electric ovens, a large American style fridge freezer, and gadgets galore. There's a kitchen table for eight - expandable to sit a comfortable 12 - and a breakfast bar for up to six. The separate utility room features washing machine and drier, an additional large fridge and freezer, and extra storage. As well as the stunning main open plan reception area, the ground floor also features a utility room, a loo, and a separate TV room-cum-play room with 42 inch flat screen LCD TV with full Sky plus package; this room has its own access to the garden and to a sandstone terrace facing the river.
An additional south-facing sitting room on the mezzanine floor, again with slate floor and original exposed stone wall, gives access through a pair of french doors onto another terrace with garden furniture and to the private rear garden, river and woods. So, with two separate reception rooms as well as the large open plan communal area, the Mill House living accommodation is generous and flexible.
Guests also have access to a separate games cottage with snooker, darts and table tennis, shared with the Old Barn.
Ormidale is 30 minutes from Dunoon, 20 minutes from Strachur, 15 minutes from Colintraive, 10 minutes from Tighnabruich.
