The south west of Scotland is a wonderful unspoilt area which is well known for its golf courses, rugged coastlines, deserted beaches and gardens. Dumfries and Galloway is not only the perfect destination for chilled-out relaxing holidays but it also boasts a range of activities and sports for those seeking a bit more action and adventure.

If you are a walker, the cottage is within a few hundred yards of the Scottish Coastal path, and if you enjoy cycling the area is home to the famous 7 Stanes mountain bike trail. Inland, there is open rolling countryside to explore with moorland hills, lochs and rivers and the Galloway Forest Park, some 150,000 acres of forest with marked trails which are ideal for both trekking and cycling (and it's the only Dark Sky park in the UK).

The warming Gulf Stream means the area is well known for its beautiful gardens including the world-renowned Logan Botanical Gardens. Formal gardens and country parks are to be found throughout the area and Threave Castle is another popular destination for plant lovers. Golfers can enjoy local as well as world famous golf courses within easy access.

There are plenty of interesting places and picturesque towns and villages, castles and ruins to visit. For those wishing to venture further afield, a trip on the ferry to Belfast is another popular outing.
