Ghillies has arguably the best position on the Portnellan Estate with a true Highland landscape all around. Situated high on the hillside with commanding views over Glen Dochart it offers the perfect setting for watching birds and other wildlife that are typical of this part of Scotland. From goldcrests and bullfinches to red squirrels and deer meandering down from the hill there is always something to enjoy.

This spacious self-catering chalet, just two miles from the village of Crianlarich, is the perfect base for visiting a whole host of famous Scottish locations. Stirling with its impressive hill top castle and the famous Wallace Monument are an hour away. Nevis Range Mountain Resort which offers skiing in the winter and forest trails to explore in the summer can be reached in 90 minutes. The Jacobite Train which runs from Fort William offers scenic day trips aboard a vintage steam railway with fantastic views of, lochs, rivers, glens and mountains.

Throughout Scotland there are over 120 distilleries to visit some of which are well worth planning a day trip around. Glenturret Distillery 33 miles, Deanston Distillery 37 miles, Oban Distillery 43 miles, Ben Nevis Distillery 55 miles, Dalwhinnie Distillery 60 miles. Nearer to home there is no end to the sights and activities that can be enjoyed. From bagging munros such as Ben More and Stob Binnein to walking along the shores of Loch Lomond, enjoying a restful picnic at the Falls of Falloch or a round of golf at Killin or Dalmally the diverse countryside around Portnellan offers something for everyone wanting to enjoy the great outdoors.

With a spacious, open plan kitchen, living and dining area the property benefits from a warm and cosy wood burning stove. Large double glazed windows lead to a private patio with garden furniture and a BBQ. With unrestricted views over Loch Iubhair, Glen Dochart, the famous Ben More and the surrounding mountains, this truly magnificent Highland setting has unrivalled views that are hard to beat.

Also included is an entertainment system with 37" LCD TV with SKY package, Blu Ray DVD, Nintendo Wii and WiFi.

With all home comforts (and more) Ghillies is equipped to a high five star standard. The upstairs master bedroom has a king-size bed, a four piece en-suite bathroom and a private balcony with a commanding view across Glen Dochart. A second upstairs bedroom has 2 zip and link beds giving the option of a large double or two singles with four piece bathroom suite. Downstairs there is a further double bedroom with king-size bed and separate four piece bathroom with large spa bath, power shower cubicle and private sauna. Finally, in the living area there is a pull-down king-size bed for a 7th/8th person.

At Gamekeeper we pride ourselves on the comfort of our beds. Five star treats include Messentex treated goose down duvets and soft Egyptian cotton bed linen. A holiday would not be a holiday without a good night's sleep. Soft white fluffy towels, bathrobes, slippers, face cloths and Arran Aromatic toiletries are also included.

Privately owned by the same family for nearly 40 years, Portnellan Estate is the ideal location for a holiday. Fishing for fresh run wild salmon and trout is available on the estate lochs and river. There are on road and off road mountain bike trails for all abilities and kayaks and rowing boats are free to use on the river and loch. Clay pigeon shooting can be arranged on request. Indoor activities include a games room with table tennis, table football and a pool table and there is also a small gym.

By Car: From Glasgow: Follow signs for A82. Continue over the Erskine Bridge towards Loch Lomond and follow signs to Crianlarich. Turn right at Tarbet. Continue to Crianlarich. Turn right at the roundabout towards the village of Crianlarich. At the hotel junction turn right onto the A85 towards Stirling. 3kms outside of the village you will find Portnellan on the right hand side.

From Edinburgh: Follow signs for M9 Stirling Exit at junction 10 for Crianlarich. Continue on A84/A85 towards Crianlarich. Portnellan is situated 1.5 miles before the village on the left hand side.

By Rail: Trains run along the West Highland line from Glasgow to Crianlarich each day. The Caledonian Sleeper (known to many as the Hogwarts Express!) operates overnight every day except Saturday night from London Euston direct to Crianlarich.
