Woodside Cottage is an immaculately clean bolt hole for a couple to stay, situated at the heart of Cromlix Estate surrounded by woodland and open countryside. If you enjoy the great outdoors, it is possible to walk for miles without having to get in your car.

Four miles from Cromlix, the centre of Dunblane has a wealth of history with its cathedral, museum and the Leighton Library which is the oldest purpose built private library in Scotland. There is also, of course, Andy Murray's golden post box. For big fans, Cromlix House Hotel is walking distance from Woodside. The Chez Roux restaurant in a glass-walled conservatory overlooking the Cromlix grounds has an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs prepare your dinner!

Slightly further afield, Monty Python fans must visit the 14th century Doune Castle which featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The castle was also used for the castle known as Winterfell in the pilot of the award winning TV series Game of Thrones and Castle Leoch in Outlander. Eight miles northwest of Doune is the next town is Callander. Sitting on the river Teith Callander is known as the gateway to Loch Lomond, the Trossachs National Park and the Scottish Highlands.

In and around Stirling, historians can visit Bannockburn, site of the 1314 battle, the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle which sits on top of a craggy outcrop overlooking the Carse of Stirling.

Further afield the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth are all within an hour's drive or can be reached using Dunblane's good rail links.

A single storey, one bedroomed self-catering holiday property. The Woodside Cottage sits within Woodside's large and colourful garden with views across open and unblemished countryside. The owners are always available if help or information is needed but you will not find them at all intrusive. This is the perfect base for couples looking for rest and seclusion while visiting central Scotland.

Self-catering accommodation:

Set on one floor the accommodation comprises large porch, bedroom with king size bed, kitchen/sitting/dining room and generous sized shower room. The porch has a coffee table and two chairs along with coat hooks and a boot mat for outdoor clothing. In the bedroom there is a super comfortable kingsize bed, bedside tables and lamps, a wardrobe and on the wall a large scale ordnance survey map to help you get your bearings. The contemporary open plan living area is comfortable and functional. There are two IKEA Poang chairs, an extending table and two dining chairs, a large storage cupboard and a small coffee table. The modern kitchen units contain an integrated fridge with ice box, an oven, two ring hob and a dishwasher.

Woodside, also known on some maps as Gamekeeper's Cottage, was the Cromlix Estate head gamekeeper's home. Built in the 1850s, the bothy was started life as the gamekeeper's tool shed and workshop.

The gardens have been developed over the past 25 years. The best time, colour-wise, is from February to June, starting with the snowdrops and snowflakes, to daffodils and bluebells, then azaleas and the 'newer' rhododendrons and finally the large rhododendron ponticum bank which can be seen from the A9. There is a wide variety of birds and a few red squirrels which you might see coming to the bird feeders.

Directions to Woodside, Cromlix Estate:

From Dunblane / A9 take the B towards Kinbuck. Once you have gone through Kinbuck you will come to a small stone bridge. Cross the bridge and turn immediately left. Follow the road for approx. 0.1 miles and take the right fork onto Cromlix Estate.

All bed, bathroom and kitchen linen is provided along with duvets, pillows, cleaning materials, bin liners, loo roll and electricity.

A starter pack of eggs, bread, butter, jam, marmalade, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, milk and water is included in the price. There is also coffee, sugar and English Breakfast, Earl Grey, peppermint and camomile teas.

Cost and availability:

Weekly lets are normally Saturday to Saturday but can be flexible and short breaks and long weekend breaks are available year round.
