Cawdor Castle estate is beautiful - the fairy-tale castle is open to the public from May to Oct and is obviously a 'must see' if you are renting a cottage near Nairn! Cawdor Castle gardens are equally stunning - three different gardens and all visually and horticulturally glorious. The conservation village of Cawdor is very attractive and has an excellent shop, post office and pub, which serves very good food.
There is so much to do in the area around Nairn - lovely walks, distilleries to tour, castles to visit, sandy beaches at Nairn, skiing at Aviemore - but many visitors just come to relax and getaway from it all. If you want to fish on the River Findhorn then you might want to rent the Banchor Beat, on the castle estate. It is a very lovely and exciting stretch of the Findhorn and some large salmon have been caught here. Golf courses are also plentiful in the area - lovely links courses at Nairn as well as Cawdor Castle's has it's own 9-hole course.
