Argyll is a part of Scotland renowned for its spectacular scenery: there are mountains and lochs and a wonderful coastline. Wildlife is in abundance and there are many unspoilt and open places to explore. This is a great place for hillwalking, birdwatching, fishing and touring. It is also an area steeped in history. Kilmartin Glen is well worth a visit for anyone interested in ancient Scottish culture and you will be delighted by the museum, standing stones, burial cairns and Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments.
Lochview Cottage is an ideal base for visiting Oban, Glencoe, Loch Lomond, the nearby islands and the Mull of Kintyre. It is less than an hour's drive to Oban, the "Gateway to the Isles". There are daily sailings to Mull and Iona and ferries to many other Hebridean islands. Not only is Oban a busy fishing port but it has a host of other attractions including an 18 hole golf course, an indoor swimming pool, a cinema, tennis and squash courts, a wide choice of shops and restaurants and even a lovely sandy beach at Ganavan Bay.
If you travel further north you reach Fort William which is nested at the foot of Ben Nevis and is known as the Outdoor Pursuits capital of Scotland. A journey south takes you to the famous Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. A little further and you reach the city of Glasgow with its vibrant mix of theatres, galleries, museums and shops.
However, if you are wanting a restful holiday then there is no need to move very far. Lochview Cottage has stunning views over Loch Fyne and it is possible to see red squirrels, buzzards, seals and even pine martins from within walking distance of the cottage.
