Roybridge is an ideal base for exploring the Highlands. It is a quiet backwater compared with nearby Fort William but with equal access to the great outdoors. You'll find a friendly local welcome in the two inns and plenty of places to eat within a few miles. With 6 bus services and 4 rail services per day, whether you arrive with or without a car, it's easy to get around and make the most of your visit. The West Highland Line takes you conveniently to Fort William and beyond to Mallaig, or in the opposite direction to the wilderness of Rannoch and Bridge of Orchy.

Most visitors come to walk in the hills - everything from gentle riverside walks to ice climbing. If skiing or mountain biking appeal, the cottage is just 8 miles from Nevis Range, Britain's newest ski area. Equipment for both sports can be hired at the base of the mountain. There are also many opportunites to take part in a whole range of other outdoor pursuits from golf to fishing and canoeing to horse riding.

For the historians, there are castles, ruins, remnants of early industrial heritage and museums. For geologists: Glen Roy's "parallel roads". Nearby Ben Nevis Distillery provides the necessary "wee dram" to complete your Highland holiday. This is a fabulous place for a Scottish highland holiday!

Entry to the cottage is through a large, modern, double-glazed porch opening into the timber-panelled hall. To the right is a kitchen/dining room about 7 metres by 4.5 metres. To the left is the sitting room which is a similar size. Both these rooms have double-glazed windows at each end, electric storage heaters and solid-fuel fireboxes and have mainly timber-panelled walls. The sitting room has comfortable seating for 6 and one of the sofas is a sofa-bed. On the wall alongside the dining table is an OS map of the area so you can plan your day's activities while having breakfast.

Ahead from the hall are the bathroom and stairs. The bathroom contains a bath, WC, basin and a separate shower cubicle. The washing machine is in the cupboard under the stairs. The bathroom and kitchen were fully re-fitted in 2007 and 2008 respectively. The stairs are steep and narrow (unsuitable for toddlers, elderly or infirm, though the sitting room does have a sofa-bed). Upstairs, the two bedrooms with coombed ceilings each have a Velux window and attractive pine furniture. Heating in the bedrooms is by electric convector heaters. Headroom is low in places!

The cottage is easy to find, just 150 metres off the A86 at Roybridge. Driving from Glasgow takes about 3 hours via Loch Lomond, Glen Coe and Fort William.

For those who prefer to travel by train, the Roybridge stop is just at the end of the garden and there are 4 trains per day in each direction plus the sleeper connection to London.
