There is just so much to do in the extreme north west highlands of Scotland. The history is ancient, the landscape untouched, the beaches long, golden and most importantly empty! Local attractions include Smoo Cave, Cape Wrath, Sandwood Bay, numerous local beaches and walks on all levels. There is a special little golf course, mountain bike rental and tracks and of course world class fishing (by arrangement).

Durness lies in the county of Sutherland which is renowned for its abundance of wildlife and vast open space. The village is surrounded by some of the best walking locations in Scotland with spectacular natural features, cliffs, golden sandy beaches, rugged mountains and expansive moorland. Local mountains include Ben Hope, Ben Loyal, Ben Klibreck and Foinaven. For nature lovers the area is a paradise and you can enjoy watching puffins, whales and porpoises as well as a wide variety of birds.

The landscape and the light make the area particularly attractive to painters and photographers. There are many local artists with arts and crafts shops dotted about. Visit the esteemed potter Lotte Glob's fantastic Sculpture Croft. The list is endless and a week is never long enough.

Every aspect has been carefully planned and crafted using honest, natural fabrics and materials. The kitchens are fully equipped for all your culinary requirements, there are separate laundry rooms with washing machines, tumble driers and storage facilities.

Croft 103 is unique - carbon negative producing more energy than is used through wind and solar generation. Outside the patio has been protected and hand finished in Caithness stone, an ideal place to relax and unwind. Enjoy the outisde solar tub - the water is piping hot and completely heated from solar power. No nasty chemicals, fresh solar heated water each time, allowing you to enjoy bathing outdoors responsibly. It is truly fantastic to sit in this deep, piping hot bath, on the loch, secluded under the stars with a glass of bubbly. On a clear dark night you can get lucky and catch an Aurora Borealis.

Please be prepared as you will never want to leave! This is a perfect place to stay for a very special break - romance is key here!

Croft 103 is found nestled on the shores of Loch Eriboll 6 miles east of Durness. Durness is remote but easy to find. Take the A9 north to the Tore roundabout, follow the A9 to the junction with the B9176 and head towards Bonar Bridge. Take the A896 through Lairg. Two miles north of Lairg take the A838 and enjoy the stunning scenery on route to Laxford Bridge. From there head north to Durness.

There is an alternative route up the west coast again through stunning scenery although approximately half an hour longer. From the Tore roundabout follow the A835 through Ullapool until you reach Ledmore Junction. Take the A837 to Laxford Bridge and then continue on the single track to Durness. Whichever route you take a warm welcome awaits you.
