Methven House, Earlsferry, Elie, Fife
Elie, a wonderful holiday destination for all ages, provides a wealth of attractions. Everything from a gently shelving blue flag beach, watersports centre, golf courses and putting green, tennis courts, Fife Coastal Path walks, shops, cafes, cosy pubs, fine dining, historic sites and bird watching are all available within walking distance of this holiday home!
If you still need more, try one of over 30 golf courses within a 15 mile radius, visit the ancient university town of St Andrews (12 miles away) or the Secret Bunker to explore the 24,000 square feet of nuclear proof accommodation built 100 feet underground. There are castles and palaces to discover and the chance to browse the picturesque fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife. The area is rich in art and antique shops and has a lively arts scene including the annual Pittenweem Arts Festival which attracts many local artists and visitors from far afield.
Fife has lots of excellent restaurants. In Elie itself Sangsters, The Ship Inn and The 19th Hole (latter is staggering distance from back gate!) are all recommended for a meal out. Within 10 miles there is a wealth of delicious places to eat but to single out a few: Michelin-starred Peat Inn, The Cellar in Anstruther, The Inn at Lathones, The Golf Hotel in Crail. A couple of miles further and there are many more in St Andrews - one being The Road Hole Restaurant at the Old Course, or try Ostlers Close in Cupar. If you want to eat in, try the Ardross Farm Shop just outside Elie for locally sourced delicious food and ready made meals. Check out the coffee and hot chocolate at The Cocoa Tree Shop in Pittenweem.
During the summer months there are many Fife gardens open to the public under the Gardens of Scotland scheme - but if you are visiting at other times of the year then the Cambo gardens are open year round and The Botanic Garden in St Andrews also runs workshops and lectures.
For keen bird-watchers (like the owner), Methven's location has much to offer. White-tailed Sea Eagles, with their 8-foot wing span, were first re-introduced to Fife in 2007 and are regularly spotted in the surrounding countryside. The nearby Isle of May has 40,000 occupied Puffin burrows, and offers the chance to see many rare species during the spring and autumn migration.
Visit equestrian centres or try out quad biking. Have a go at clay pigeon shooting or take a boat trip to the Isle of May. Enjoy a spot of sea fishing...... or just stay and relax in your comfortable holiday home!

Accommodation:
Methven House is a recent sympathetic renovation of the 'old' grocers shop in Elie. It is a successful blend of the original Victorian charm with some cutting edge contemporary styling.
There are 2 front doors into the property. One door leads directly into the 'shop' which is now a huge south facing sitting room (26' long) with large wood-burning stove and 37inch digital TV with DVD player and ipod compatible music system. One of the sofas can be converted to a comfortable double bed. The other front door leads into a vestibule with traditional Victorian tiled floor which in turn leads into a reception hall with staircase leading up to 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (one ensuite). Staying on the ground floor and going straight ahead is a 2nd sitting room with wood burning stove, 32 inch digital TV and DVD player. This room is open-planned with the new kitchen which leads directly onto a sun-trap and sheltered, enclosed garden. The garden gate leads down a path to private off street parking for 2 cars and on to the golf course. The kitchen is large and sunny, well-equipped with ovens, microwave, large fridge, freezer, washer/dryer, gas hob, ipod player etc and has dining facilities for 12. Turning left in the kitchen leads through to the utility kitchen, which is another fully-equipped kitchen with a huge SMEG fridge/freezer, gas hob, microwave, oven, washing machine, dishwasher etc.
At the rear of the property on this side is a twin room overlooking the garden and a shower room. A kingsize double room with ensuite bathroom is at the top of the stairs leading up from the utility kitchen. From the utility kitchen heading back to the front of the property is a doorway to the front shop sitting room. There is also a door from this sitting room to the reception hall. At the top of the stairs from the reception hall is a master superkingsize double room with ensuite bathroom with underfloor heating. There are 3 front facing bedrooms as well - a twin, a single and a triple (with adult-sized bunks). There is a family bathroom with bath and separate shower.
