Anstruther coastal holiday let

Waidslea, Anstruther, East Neuk Fishing Village, Fife, Scotland.

Waidslea is a modern, comfortable holiday let in Anstruther within easy reach of shops, pubs and bars, take aways, chip shops and restaurants including the Michelin star The Cellar in Anstruther itself and The Peat in near St Andrews. The house has the added bonus of off street parking and a courtyard garden and is perfect for couples, families with children or people travelling for business.

'A fringe of gold on a beggar's mantle' is how James II of Scotland described the East Neuk of Fife with its burghs built around sheltered bays and surrounded by rich farmland. Anstruther is the largest of the East Neuk fishing harbours, full of character and crammed with narrow, winding streets. There's plenty to do whether you want to walk or cycle, hire a boat to fish, play a round of golf or entertain the children with sandy beaches and outdoor activities like canoeing or abseiling. When you want to wind down Anstruther has plenty of quaint pubs, delightful tearooms and award-winning restaurants, including the best fish and chip shop in Scotland.

Anstruther itself has a delightful Fisheries Museum, recounting the East Neuk fishing past, a sailing club where you can hire tuition, an outdoor activities centre to try out abseiling, canoeing and archery and a golf course overlooking the sea. The Isle of May (a nature reserve and bird sanctuary) lies 6 miles off the Fife coast and you can take a ferry trip there from Anstruther. The East Neuk also has a strong arts and crafts tradition so you'll find lots of galleries and workshops to enjoy.

Scotland's Secret Bunker is close by - hidden beneath an innocent Scottish farmhouse, a tunnel leads to Scotland's best kept secret for 40 years: 24,000 square feet of secret accommodation 100 feet underground. Had there been a nuclear war, this is where Scotland would have been governed from and it is now a very popular tourist attraction. Also worth a visit is the National Trust of Scotland property Kellie Castle, which dates back to the 14th century and boasts one of the loveliest gardens in Fife.

The beautiful East Neuk villages beckon you to explore and can be reached on foot along the Fife Coastal Path: Pittenweem with its still active fishing harbour, St Monans with one of the best seafood restaurants, Elie with a fabulous delicatessen, Blue Flag beach and watersports, and Crail with its quaint streets, tearooms and working pottery. You will certainly be ideally placed if you like golf! There are golf courses to test all abilities: Anstruther, Crail, Elie, Balbirnie Park, Kingsbarns, Scotscraid, Charleton, Lundin Links, Carmoustie, all within easy reach. Of course there is the home of golf at St Andrews, just 15 minutes away: here you'll find lots of golf courses, stunning beaches, a cathedral and a castle, a cinema and a theatre, an aquarium and Sea Life Centre as well as great shopping.
