Taigh na Fraoch
Clashnessie, Lochinver, Sutherland

This holiday house entry is due to expire try:

Assynt is a nature lover's paradise, offering spectacular rugged mountain and coastal scenery, beautiful and secluded sandy beaches, fascinating geology and a wide range of bird and animal wildlife. There are National Nature Reserves at Inchnadamph and Inverpolly, in addition to the Scottish Wildlife Trust (SWT) reserve at Handa Island. Highland Regional Council employs Rangers during the summer months, who offer guided walks, allowing you to explore the area's wildlife and flora.

There are over 150 miles of footpaths, including plenty of low-level walks winding between the mountains or along the coast. Walks such as the cliff top walk to the Old Man of Stoer, or the river walk to the Falls of Kirkaig, or the shorter walk to the Bone Caves at Inchnadamph. Assynt and Coigach also have some of the most dramatic peaks in Scotland - Conival and Ben More Assynt, the highest peaks in the area, are popular with the Munro climbers, while Suilven is probably the best known of the Assynt hills. The views of the Summer Isles from the summit of Stac Polly are superb.

The fisherman is spoilt for choice, with sea angling as well as countless lochs, streams and rivers offering wonderful sport. Other places to visit include artists' galleries, Highland Stoneware Pottery, gardens, tea rooms, and many more.

Accommodation:
Taigh na Fraoch, gaelic for House of Heather, is a newly built one and a half storey cottage, designed in traditional highland style. It is a warm and cosy house, peacefully situated in the beautiful, remote area of Assynt, on the west coast of Sutherland, just a few minutes walk from the sweeping sandy beach of Clashnessie Bay. The house has a fully enclosed, natural garden, with lovely open outlooks across the heather moorlands towards the mountains of Quinag and the sea.

The accommodation is over two floors, with a sitting room, dining room, kitchen, utility room, shower room and single bedroom (with guest bed) on the ground floor. There is also a porch for storing outdoor gear and boots and a pulley in the utility room for drying wet clothes which cannot go into the tumble drier. The upper floor comprises a twin bedroom, double bedroom and bathroom.

Directions:
From the south, take the A9 to Inverness. Though not a motorway, many parts are dual carriageway. From Inverness, it will take you approximately two hours. Take the A835 to Ullapool, then leave Ullapool on the A835 north and carry on for 18 miles to Ledmore junction. Turn left here and take the A837 to Lochinver.

To get to Taigh na Fraoch, you turn right towards Achmelvich on the B869 just before you enter the village of Lochinver. This last 7 miles of your journey is on a single track road, which makes the going somewhat slower, but the scenery is stunning!

What's included:
All electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and a starter pack of fuel for the fire is included in the price.

Cleaning/laundry materials and basic staples, such as salt, pepper, tea, coffee and olive oil are also included.
