Cottages in Argyll

cottages sleeping 1 to 4 people in Perthshire

South Lodge is nestled into the side of Spring Wood looking out towards Ederline House and Loch Ederline beyond. It is over 200 years old and as the name suggests is the southern entrance to the estate which is now rarely used. Ederline Estate is a working hill farm set in stunning West Coast scenery with wonderful views down over Loch Awe. The estate offers excellent fishing with over 18 hill lochs with wild brown trout and also a loch stocked with rainbow trout. Boats and canoes can be hired on Loch Ederline which has fantastic opportunities for pike and perch fishing. Nearby Loch Awe which is one of the longest freshwater lochs in Scotland is also well known for pike, perch and trout.

From here it is possible to explore and enjoy the wonderful Argyll coast and the islands beyond. There are regular ferries from Oban, Tayinloan, Kennacraig and Claonaig which are all under an hour's drive. It is also possible to arrange private boat trips for fishing or sightseeing with the Correyvrecken whirlpool a major attraction.

The warm Gulf Stream conditions allow some wonderful gardens to thrive in the area and many are open to the public; Arduaine, Stonefield Castle, Duntrune Castle, Crarae, and Achmore gardens on the Isle of Gigha. This is also an area steeped in historical interest with many important archaeological sites. Kilmartin Glen has a serious concentration of ancient monuments many of which are prehistoric and include burial cairns, rock carvings and standing stones. The village of Kilmartin has an excellent museum and interpretative centre and is well worth a visit. For the outdoor enthusiast there are opportunities for walking, cycling, pony trekking, golf and swimming but you may choose to just enjoy the peace and quiet and have the chance to unwind.

Accommodation:
South Lodge enjoys an elevated position - the picture above is a view looking towards the cottage in the valley. The path leads up from the drive to the front door of the porch which has plenty hanging space for coats. Double doors open out to a small hall. Off the hall to the right is a door which leads into a large bedroom with a king sized bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, dressing table and two windows. To the left of the hall is a door leading into the sitting room. This room has a sofa and armchair with an open fire. It has a TV, DVD, video and CD music system and benefits from two windows.

Both the bedroom and the sitting room have views to the front of the cottage. A door leads off the sitting room to a corridor which then has a door leading to the kitchen. The kitchen is new and fully equipped with everything you will need. It has a microwave, fridge/ freezer washing machine and a dining area. Off the corridor also is a door leading to the bathroom (also newly fitted) which has a large walk-in shower, wash-hand basin, loo and underfloor heating too - very cosy! The kitchen and bathroom windows look out the back onto the wooded banks of bluebells that bloom in the spring.

Outside is a small garage and a well stocked log shed. The garden has sloping lawns down to the drive and is surrounded with a fence. There is also a large parking area for your car off the drive opposite the path which leads up to the cottage.

What's included:
Price includes logs for the fire (you need to split them) and all bed linen.
Electricity is metered and charged at cost at the end of your stay.
