Cottages in Argyll

cottages sleeping 1 to 4 people in Perthshire

Ce Na Mara is a great place for a relaxing holiday and is set amidst some of the most stunning scenery to be found in Argyll. The cottage is situated at the southern end of Kilmelford village and close to (1/4 mile) Loch na Cille (a bay within Loch Melfort). The village is 14 miles south of Oban and has the usual village facilities of a church, shop/post office/caf and a coaching inn. This is an ideal place for touring the Argyll area and to visit many of the local tourist attractions. If you dont wish to immerse yourself amongst the varied local flora and fauna to be encountered along many of the walking tracks, you can always take the car to many easily found attractions. Having returned from your excursions, you can, on a clear night, sit back, relax and look up at the stars, whilst imbibing a glass or two of the local usige beatha.

Within a few minutes drive, you can make yourself at one with the Argyll countryside on the road to the Degnish peninsular, or, having braved the steep curve behind the Post Office, set out on a beautiful road of adventure to Dalavich/Kilcrennan alongside Loch Avich and through the Inverinan forest. Visit Kilmartin Glen (and museum) and satisfy your curiosity of ancient monuments by looking at the numerous standing stones, cairns and burial mounds. Take a trip to the Crinan Canal and see the brightly coloured houses along the Canal-side rivalling those on Mull, or visit the numerous castles in the area. Take the Woodland Trust walk (about one hour) across the lock gates by the Crinan Hotel, and enjoy the amazing panoramic views of Kilmartin Glen, the Paps of Jura and Ben Mhor on Mull. Walk round Arduaine Gardens (pronounced Ardooney) and see the magnificent award winning displays of flowers and plants. Take a car ride along the coast road to Campbeltown and the world famous Mull of Kintyre. For the more energetic of you try a walk down to the lighthouse - and then back!

Oban is 14 miles away where you can enjoy trips via ferry to the famous Islands of Mull, Iona and Tiree - all can easily be visited on day trips. For the whisky lovers a trip to the Oban Distillery is a must. Or just walk around the town taking in the breathtaking views across the bay. Children and ddults alike will enjoy a trip to the Oban Sealife Centre (20 miles) where you can feed the fish or even if you time it right watch the seals being fed. For a longer day out try a trip to Fort William visiting Castle Stalker along the way or visit Inverary with its famous interactive Jail.
