The Oaks, a recently refurbished self-catering cottage, is a 5 minute walk from the picturesque village of St Fillans, situated on the shores of Loch Earn. The loch is stunningly beautiful at all times of the year and hillwalking in the area knows no bounds: Ben Vorlich can be accessed from the south side of the loch and if you are lucky you may be able to spot an osprey or two amongst the many birds of prey.

St Fillans boasts a village shop which offers boat hire, fishing permits and indoor and outdoor seating for refreshments. There are two hotels which have good restaurants and a Bistro. Crieff Hydro have an outpost on Loch Earn where water-skiing and banana boating are available, very popular with children and teenagers. There is a sailing club which offers RYA courses, but you need to book early.

The house is 2 minutes' walk from the beautiful and challenging 9 hole golf course of St Fillans, complete with a club house offering a variety of snacks, lunches and drinks. The golf courses of Gleneagles and Crieff are 35 and 20 minutes away respectively and there are lots of other superb courses in Perthshire.

Nearby Comrie, 10 minutes by car, offers a bakery, butcher, delicatessen and grocer and a friendly newsagent where you can book or find out about local activities taking place during your stay. There is much to see: Auchingarrich Wildlife Park is set in stunning scenery and houses many species from meerkats to day old chicks, so there is something for everyone. Comrie Croft is popular for its mountain biking trails and again there are endless walks with superb scenery about and above the village. A secret gem is the miniature railway hidden away in The Ross, an area on the outskirts of Comrie village. This becomes active during Comrie fortnight which is a regular tourist attraction during the summer months. You will also find warm and friendly cafes offering homemade cakes and snacks in the village as well as some excellent restaurants.

The larger town of Crieff is 20 minutes away where there is a supermarket, many other shops and The Crieff Hydro along with the Leisure Centre offering all sporting activities from swimming pools to croquet, badminton, squash and tennis. Keep a look out for local Highland Games in the summer months.

The Oaks is perfectly situated for day trips - the west coast is easily reached and the drive around the lochs en route is wonderful. Edinburgh and Glasgow are just over an hour away so easy for a day's visit too.

The Oaks is a traditional Victorian detached cottage situated on the outskirts of the village of St Fillans within the Trossachs National Park. The cottage is in its own acre of private garden complete with burn running between the lawns and a small wild flower paddock which you will find across a secure wooden bridge. A lockable section of the garage is available for bike storage and there is plenty of room for parking on the gravelled area in front of the cottage. Outdoor furniture is available along with BBQ facilities.

There are two delightfully spacious and attractive double bedrooms upstairs. One with twin beds and a truckle bed if needed and the other with a double bed. Both bedrooms afford spectacular views across the nine hole golf course to Glenartney and beyond. You can see the top of Am Bioran, showing its many colours depending on the season, topped with snow in the winter months. There is a roomy WC with washbasin on the first floor. All crisp linen and fresh towels are provided.

Downstairs, there is a very comfortable dining room/kitchen with seating for 6 and an open fire facing stunning views - guests comment on how much they enjoy this space. A large bay window with window seats faces the garden and allows easy chatter to accompany whoever is working in the kitchen whilst lunch or supper bubbles away on the two oven Aga which is always warm and ready for use. The Aga is ideal for slow cooking supper while you are out for the afternoon or for baking potatoes! The kitchen is well equipped throughout. A spacious utility room offers an American fridge/freezer/cool water dispenser, all washing facilities are provided along with lots of cupboard space and a microwave. A ground floor bathroom is useful if you have been out on the water and the power shower above the bath is most reviving.

The sitting room seats 5 comfortably and the private single bedroom leads off this room. All tastefully decorated and very cosy for watching movies when relaxing after a busy day out of doors. There is a sun porch with seating for 4 where you can relax and enjoy the warmth at the end of the day when the sun has set, a welcome spot for an evening drink.

You will be welcomed personally and a hamper of essentials will be in the kitchen upon arrival along with references to all local activities etc which can be found in an up to date folder in the bookcase in the dining room, along with games, cards and a few DVDs.

From the south take the M80 from Glasgow and follow past the Stirling and Dunblane turn off. Continue until you see the brown tourist sign for Pitlochry. Take the exit signed for Crieff and scenic route to Pitlochry. Follow this road either through to Crieff if you need a main supermarket shop (there is a Co-op at the bottom of the hill into Crieff on the right) or take a left signed to Comrie 10 miles, this is a beautiful route if arriving in daylight as the scenery is stunning.

Upon entering Comrie you will come to a T junction facing The Royal Hotel. Turn left onto the A85 towards Crianlarich and you will come into St Fillans after 4 miles. You will find The Oaks once you pass the 'Welcome to St Fillans' sign - look out for the Tollgate House on your right just at the edge of the road, the pale green gates are immediately after the Tollgate House on the right and the drive curls up above and beyond the road.
