The charming Arts and Crafts village of Fortingall lies at the foot of Glen Lyon, Scotlands longest, and arguably most beautiful, glen. With its mixture of deciduous and coniferous woodland, the area is a haven for a wide variety of wildlife, and the colours during autumn in particular are spectacular. The river Lyon runs nearby, merging into the famous silvery Tay, and trout and salmon fishing is available on both rivers. The local Lawers range, nearby Schiehallion and Glen Lyon offer Munros with a variety of walking ranging from the challenging to the gentle stroll.

Fortingall is home to a 5,000 year-old yew tree, along with standing stones and cup-marked stones reflecting its ancient heritage. These sit comfortably with its Victorian architecture in a location that is as tranquil as it is beautiful. The award-winning four star Fortingall Hotel next door offers an excellent complement to your self-catering holiday.

Fortingall is off the beaten track, yet lies only eight miles from Aberfeldy, a bustling small town with all necessary amenities including grocery shops, delicatessen, butcher, banks, Post Office, garage, and book, gift and art shops. There is also a leisure centre with a 25m indoor swimming pool, Aberfeldy Golf Course, plus a pitch and putt course. Kenmore is six miles at the head of Loch Tay and is home to a small post office shop, gift shop and delicatessen, hotel and restaurant as well as two golf courses.

This part of Perthshire has a wealth of outdoor activities. Loch Tay is two miles away and, along with its river, hosts numerous water activities including loch cruises, sailing, kayaking and canoeing, canyoning and white water rafting. Wildlife safaris, golfing, pony trekking, clay pigeon shooting, deer stalking, pheasant and partridge shooting, paintballing, gold panning and quad biking are just a few of the activities on offer, and the vicinity is also great for cycling.
