Riverview Cottage
Kirkmichael, Perthshire

4 Star holiday
cottage

Situated in the delightful Perthshire village of Kirkmichael, Riverview Cottage offers 4 star accommodation with many added extras. There are 2 log fires, fishing at the bottom of the garden in the River Ardle (tackle and a lesson on hand) and 2 adult bicycles are available by arrangement. The surrounding area boasts many opportunities for walking, fishing, cycling, golf and enjoying the rich natural environment. Due to the river at the bottom of the garden we are sorry but we are unable to take children.

There are many paths you can take for walks around Kirkmichael. A local favourite is to take the short section of the Cateran Trail from Kirkmichael cross country to Enochdhu then back along the road. You will also find unique walking networks around the towns and villages of Pitlochry, Dunkeld, Blairgowrie and Crieff. Why not take a walk through Black Spout Wood, in Pitlochry - an oak wood alive with red squirrels and roe deer - along the way you'll pass a cascading waterfall, a ruined castle and call into Scotland's smallest distillery at Edradour for a wee 'dram' (just 15 minutes drive from the cottage - make sure and try some of the whisky flavoured fudge!). Lovers of long distance routes will enjoy the rest of the 60-mile Cateran Trail which forms a circuit in east Perthshire starting and finishing in Blairgowrie. If you prefer hill and mountain walking then the mountains here form part of the Southern Highlands, which are generally more rounded and less rocky than their counterparts further north. They provide both an attractive venue for those on short breaks and also an excellent testing ground for less experienced hillwalkers.

If you decide to fish in the River Ardle at the bottom of the garden, a fishing rod and tackle are available in the garden shed and the owner is pleased to show the rudiments of fly fishing. Try your luck for a trout or buy a permit for salmon fishing. Tayside is known as the region of rivers because it contains many magnificent rivers large and small, tranquil and tumultuous and most of them have abundant stocks of fish. Tayside also contains many lochs; huge highland lochs like Rannoch, Tay and Ericht, smaller hill lochs such as Freuchie, Lee and Kinnardachy and of course a large amount of smaller lochs, reservoirs and still waters.

Kirkmichael is in the heart of golfing country with world famous Gleneagles approx 1 hour's drive away, St Andrews 2 hours, and Rosemount close by. There are also some hidden gems such as Pitlochry, Kirriemuir, Dunkeld and Alyth golf courses all within a short drive. Close by Blair Atholl is an interesting and very playable 9 hole course with a beautiful riverside location. There are around 40 golf courses in Perthshire - choose from scenic Highland layouts and idyllic parkland settings.

At the cottage two adult cycles are available for your use by arrangement. It is recognised that in Perthshire you'll find some of the best cycle routes in the UK. Throughout Perthshire you find panoramic views, diverse wildlife and miles upon miles of little used routes that are great to explore. Around Kirkmichael there is plenty to choose from. Perthshire is a destination for all seasons, but if you want stunning scenery and vivid colours, come cycling in autumn when the tree-lined hillsides and glens are resplendent with their coat of blazing coppers, ochres and golds. Off-roaders are well-accommodated for too. Here you will find an extensive selection of little used Highland forestry and other tracks, many of which are close to the main A9 road route north. Soothe those aching muscles back at this lovely Perthshire self-catering cottage in the bath at the end of the day!
