The Old School Arbuthnott, Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire, Scotland |
|
These three delightful holiday cottages have been converted from The Old School on the Arbuthnott Estate near Laurencekirk. The design is
clever so that each cottage has a different outlook and is very independent and private. Two of the cottages sleep 6 and one sleeps 5-7 - all are beautifully appointed and tastefully decorated. Also recently renovated detached and secluded Garden Cottage with its 4 bedrooms can sleep up to 7 people. Arbuthnott
House is open to the public at certain times but the beauty of the surrounding garden can be enjoyed all year long for a small charge.
There is plenty to do in the area - the sea is just a few miles away, with sandy or rocky beaches at St Cyrus and the neighbouring villages. Royal Deeside is on the doorstep with its fine houses, castles and gardens to visit. There is excellent hill walking, pony trekking and cycling
on Deeside and in the gorgeous Angus glens. It is also a great region for nature reserves and there are numerous golf courses nearby (including Montrose, Edzell, Auchenblae and Stonehaven). Fishing is
another popular holiday acitivity in the area with sea-fishing from Stonehaven and a free fishing permit on River Bervie if you are staying in the holiday cottages. The well known salmon rivers of the River Dee and the North and South Esk are nearby and fishing can be arranged.
This is Lewis Grassic Gibbon country (he was born in Aberdeenshire) and the fascinating Grassic Gibbon Centre with its home baking is closeby. The holiday
cottages are named after some of his best known books. The list of activities in Deeside is endless and this holiday accommodation offers a peaceful and quiet
retreat from the stresses of 21st century life.
