Parkhead Cottage
Kilry, Aylth

4 Star self-catering holiday cottage

This stylish self-catering cottage is located in the peaceful rural village of Kilry, set at the southern end of Glenisla, and with access to the southern end of the Cairngorm National Park. Many walking and cycling routes go directly from the cottage: it is located on the Cateran trail which goes cross-country from Blairgowrie and north in a circular route and offers some wonderful walking. There are three local golf courses in Alyth, as well as the championship courses at Carnoustie and Gleneagles within a day trip. Horse riding, off-road adventure centre and Glenshee ski area are just a short drive away. Osprey nest locally and they can be seen fishing on the local lochs at Lintrathen and Kinnordy as well as many other interesting birds in the area. There are red squirrels in the woods next to the local school which are easy to spot and fabulous to watch.

On your return in the evening there is a well equipped kitchen as well as a laundry area to help you get yourself and your equipment ready for the next day’s activities. The sun streams into the kitchen/dining area on summer evenings, providing a wonderful setting for your evening meal if you have taken advantage of the excellent local produce and cooked at home. However if you wish to eat out there are many pubs and restaurants to choose from, including a local restaurant which offers Michelin recommendation 2009 providing exceptional cuisine. Or maybe you will just enjoy your evening in the cottage relaxing by the wood-burning stove in the cosy sitting room watching the sun going down. This lovely cottage is ideal for both a relaxing break in the Scottish hills as well as an activity holiday, taking advantage of all that Perthshire has to offer.

This is an area that produces a very high standard of food from the Aberdeen Angus beef at the local butcher, to smoked and fresh fish from Arbroath. There are also the summer soft fruits and asparagus all produced on local farms and available from the local shops.

There is good local information provided in the cottage covering the local shops and restaurants. The owners will give you information on circular walks and cycling routes at different levels of ability which could be for just half an hour stroll to the Reekie Lynn waterfall or a whole day's cycling. Let them know your interests and they will send you the information.

Accommodation:
The holiday cottage was renovated in 2001 and a light, open-plan kitchen and dining area was added to a traditional Perthshire cottage. There are beautiful solid wood floors throughout making this practical accommodation set in the breathtaking rural Scottish countryside. There are two generous double bedrooms all on one level, one with access to the garden from the French doors. The views are lovely and you can spend hours just watching the changing light on the hills.

The comfortable sitting room is delightful in the evening summer sun but it also has a very efficient wood-burning stove that heats the house on winter evenings so you will by warm here throughout the year. It is a great place to relax and unwind after a busy day. The kitchen is very well equipped and the separate laundry room is a boon if you need to dry clothes after a day in the hills or on the golf course.
