Situated in Glencassley, Rowan Cottage has a delightful riverside location and provides a perfect viewpoint from which to see the salmon making their way upstream. The glen is a wonderful place to relax and get away from it all.
In the heart of Sutherland near Lairg, it is also the perfect base for a highland holiday. Both the east and west coasts can be explored with ease. The east coast has several small towns with beautiful beaches, plenty of good cafes and restaurants and some excellent golf courses. The west coast has more dramatic scenery and hill walking enthusiasts will enjoy the mountains, and the town of Ullapool is also a very popular attraction.
The local area is a real paradise for those keen on fishing. The estate has its own 2 1/2 mile beat of double bank salmon fishing on the River Cassley and fishing, when available, can be arranged on a weekly basis through the estate. Also close by is the River Oykel with the Shin and Carron just a short drive away. There are also several lochs in the area which provide enjoyable wild brown trout fishing.
If golf is your preference then you are in for a real treat with the selection of courses within easy reach. The nearest course to Rowan Cottage is Bonar Bridge which is a charming and challenging inland 9 hole course. A little further afield are two more excellent links courses: Castle Stuart near Inverness and Nairn Golf Club. The championship course Royal Dornoch, which is regarded as one of the best links courses in the world, is only 25 miles away and Golspie, Tain and Brora all offer 18 hole courses in traditional Scottish links style.
The surrounding scenery and the resident wildlife make the area extra special for wildlife enthusiasts, artists and photographers. Keep an eye out for red deer, sika deer, ospreys, peregrine falcons, buzzards, golden eagle and even if you don't see it, you may well hear the more elusive cuckoo.

Beautifully converted from an original farm building, Rowan Cottage is equipped to a high standard and overlooks the famous Cassley River.
The cottage has three comfortable bedrooms and sleeps 5. There is a single bedroom downstairs (along with a convenient WC) and a double bedroom and twin bedroom upstairs. Also upstairs is a family bathroom with a bath and shower.
Downstairs the living/kitchen area has an open fire, perfect for relaxing in front of after a day out on the hills or fishing on the river. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric induction cooker, dishwasher and microwave. It is furnished with a wooden kitchen table and chairs. There is a laundry room at the back which has shared use with neighbouring Birch Cottage. The laundry consists of two washing machines, condenser dryer and chest freezer.
Outside the garden is overlooking the river with garden furniture and BBQ. Being on the riverside provides a perfect viewpoint from which to see the salmon making their way upstream. However, this situation means that young children should be supervised as the river is deep in places and quite fast-flowing.
