Thurso is mainland Scotland's most northerly town, situated on the far north east coast of the Highlands. Centrally located, yet in a quiet and picturesque part of the town, The Townhouse is situated less than a minute from the beach. Stroll along the promenade and enjoy the wonderful sea views dominated by the distant cliffs of Dunnet Head to the north east, and those of the island of Hoy to the north. See the ferries come and go from nearby Scrabster Harbour. Eat in the lovely restaurant on the promenade with its perfect sea views or try the excellent cafe at the harbour (just a 2 minute walk from the house!).

Thurso is the perfect location for a holiday and The Townhouse offers the perfect base to explore the many attractions of Caithness. The famous John o'Groats with its breath-taking scenery and unrivalled coastline where you can board daily ferries along the coast and regular sailings to the Orkney Isles is well worth a visit. The Castle of Mey (lovingly restored by the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother), the Dunbeath Heritage Centre, Caithness Horizons and Pulteney Distillery in Wick are among many of the local visitor attractions. Not to mention the beautiful coastline and spectacular scenery.

The proximity to the beach and the storage facilities for surfing equipment and wet suits make this property an ideal retreat for surfing. The summer months are ideal for learners as the waves are smaller. Experienced surfers will enjoy the more powerful waves at Thurso East (from September and throughout the winter months and through the spring). The Townhouse is situated at the east side of Thurso beach, so the reef is just a short distance - being only a minute walk away, you can literally come and go in your wet suit!

Thurso itself offers a variety of supermarkets, shops (lovely little gift boutiques as well as shops selling local produce), cafes, bars and restaurants as well as a public swimming pool. There are a variety of restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes, from award winning seafood restaurants to local cafes, bars and bistros within walking distance (within a 5 minute stroll).
