Caithness is an area of great beauty and contrasts with acres of wilderness, mountains, dramatic cliffs and deserted beaches, but also boasts two bustling towns providing all the facilities a visitor may need. Caithness is the ideal base for walkers, cyclists, surfers, birdwatchers, botanists, or for people who just want to relax and escape the stresses and strains of modern day living.

Ocean View Holiday Cottage is perfectly positioned to take advantage of all that Caithness has to offer; including Brough Bay which is only a 5 minute walk away with its resident seal colony and various nesting sea birds and Dunnet Head (2 min drive, or a pleasant 2 mile walk or cycle) which is the most northerly point on mainland Britain. It has a magnificent viewpoint, cliffs with puffins and also a Stevenson lighthouse. The famous village of John O'Groats is 12 miles away and is well worth a visit. Wildlife boat trips and day trips to Orkney are available during the summer months.

Caithness is full of sites of historical interest including brochs, cairns, hut circles to name but a few. These are generally noted on ordnance survey maps of the area but are often not signposted making it even more of an adventure discovering them for yourself but avoiding the crowds which tends to be a feature of many other visitor attractions. Forsinard RSPB reserve at the centre of The Flow Country is another visitor attraction far away from the crowds. This amazing wild landscape consists of over 11,000 acres of blanket bog and lochans and is a place of sanctuary for many birds and plants. It is also of great international significance in terms of reducing carbon emissions and soon, hopefully, to become recognised as a World Heritage Site.

For those wishing to travel slightly further a field, a day trip to north west Sutherland is well worth it to visit the beautiful secluded beaches and wild mountain landscapes of this unpopulated, unspoiled area.
