These two self-catering cottages are stunning and have been particularly well converted from historic 19th century mill cottages. Each cottage sleeps 2 and is only a ten minute drive from Dunkeld. They are found on the famous scenic road via the Sma' Glen to Amulree and Aberfeldy. The hamlet of Trochry retains old stone walls and a ruined castle and lies adjacent to the river amid excellent walking country. You are very well situated for touring this beautiful and peaceful part of Perthshire, but also central for venturing further afield.

The cottages are owned by author Ann Lindsay, whose 19th century family photos and book-jacket covers decorate the walls. The owner lives in the neighbouring old farmhouse and her own substantial garden is available for use. Each mill cottage also has its own east-facing sun-trap courtyard garden, and also a west-facing balcony, perfect for watching wildlife or lazing with a coffee or evening drink.

Trochry is 3.5 miles from Dunkeld which boasts an ancient cathedral and wonderful shops and pubs. Aberfeldy is only 10 miles north and is well worth a visit - try the recently converted watermill which now offers a wonderful bookshop and cafe bistro. Crieff offers shopping, a leisure centre, and good walks. Pitlochry to the north has its famous annual festival of music and excellent theatre.

You are ideally located for taking part in a whole range of outdoor activities. Hills and heather are in abundant supply as are rivers and lochs. Explore up Glen Quaich on the tiny road over to Loch Tay. There are ample opportunities for hill walking nearby with other more or less challenging walks available within the area, including Schiehallion and other Munros. If you enjoy your golf, there is a course in the Sma' Glen and several more golf courses within striking distance. Both fishing and skiing are on offer depending on the season. Perthshire offers a wide variety of ancient and historic sites, including The Hermitage just north of Dunkeld, which is managed by the National Trust for Scotland, and magnificent Blair Castle further up the A9.
