Glenelg is a gorgeous Scottish coastal village, overlooking Skye, in the very heart of the rugged Highlands. Glenelg is surrounded by history and adventure; from Boswell and Johnson to Gavin Maxwell, from majestic Monroes to fairytale beaches; it’s no wonder most visitors keep coming back. There are plenty of activities nearby from pony trekking (overnight trips and longer are available by arrangement) to deer stalking and fishing, from golf to boat trips. The area is surrounded with really great walks to suit all legs: easy strolls along the beach, longer walks through the woods, or harder scrambles up monroes.
Situated south of Loch Duich, the Glenelg peninsular juts out into the Sound of Sleet. The village itself is stretched out along a pebbly bay, the picturesque white-washed cottages surrounded by trees along with the ruins of Fort Bernera, an 18th garrison for English Government troops. The area is a tranquil backwater (despite the trickle of summer traffic for the Glenelg - Kylerhea ferry to Skye) but it is also home to a lively community and a wonderful inn where you will find good food and a welcoming atmosphere. This is a perfect self-catering highland holiday home where you can retreat from the modern world.

Accommodation:
Originally built in 1720 as officers' quarters for the nearby Jacobean Barracks, this neat Glenelg cottage has been transformed into a cosy and sophisticated space for rest, relaxation, and entertainment. Deliciously warm in winter, log fire blazing, and fresh and cool in summer, this is an experience to be enjoyed at any time of year. The property has been designed as a home, not a holiday house. The Benary is on the main street of Glenelg, opposite the shop so right in the heart of this historic village.
You'll enter 'round the back, coming into the back kitchen, with heating under the slate and flagstone floor. At this point you may want to remove your shoes to better enjoy the contrasting temperature of the floor: deliciously cool in summer, and indulgently warm in winter! To your right is the bathroom, with a romantic double-ended bath.
As you enter the cottage to your left, you'll enter the modern, limed oak kitchen with plenty of work tops and enough gadgets to keep even the keenest chef happy! The kitchen table has seated 10, but 7 will be amply accommodated. Through a curtained divide is the sitting room.
Locally sourced oak flooring, and comfy sofas will welcome you, as will the open fire,
original artwork (actually, rather special), and drinks fridge.
The lighting can be bright and vibrant, or low key for reading... or whate'er you will! In the corner cupboard is a dream/nightmare (!) of audio-visual joy: TV, video, DVD, Satellite (do bring your Sky card, if you have one, to access more than the basic programmes), CD player, etc. There is also a selection of CDs, videos, and DVDs to get you started. In the corner is a selection of books: lots of good holiday stuff! There is also a variety of games, however do bring your own as the house games tend to lose bits..!
