ross-shire holiday cottage

Braemoray
Novar Estate, Alness, Ross-shire

Braemoray is a spacious, well-equipped and very comfortable modernised cottage, set in the beautiful private grounds of Novar Estate close to the village of Evanton, Ross-shire. Evanton is just 20 minutes by car from Inverness, and is ideally located to explore the northern Highlands, being within an hour of both Speyside and the west coast.

This lovely self-catering house lies in a peaceful setting surrounded by woods and deer parkland, with its own resident herd of fallow deer, and there is immediate access to walks through the parklands and estate forests, inhabited by abundant wildlife including red squirrels, pine martens, roe deer, capercaillie, red kites and ospreys. The northern Highlands of Scotland offer some of the most beautiful and unspoilt scenery in Britain, and a variety of activities to enjoy during your visit including salmon and trout fishing, golf, shooting and deer stalking, horse riding, wildlife watching and hill walking.

Salmon fishing can be arranged by the proprietor on the nearby River Alness and River Conon, and there is some excellent trout fishing locally. The proprietor is also a qualified fly fishing instructor, and tuition and guiding can also be provided. Braemoray's location is also perfect for golfers, with over 15 very different links and inland courses within a 45 minute drive, including Alness Golf Club just 5 minutes drive away, the championship courses at Royal Dornoch and Nairn, plus Tain, Fortrose and Rosemarkie, Invergordon, Strathpeffer, Bonar Bridge, Golspie and the Carnegie Club at Skibo.

The wildlife watching opportunities locally are exceptional. The Moray Firth area has easily viewed populations of bottle nosed dolphins, common and grey seals, and roe, red and sika deer. You may also see some of our other, more elusive mammals including otter, red squirrel, pine marten, and wildcat. It's also a superb location for birdwatching with osprey and red kites in particular easily seen, both frequent visitors to the lochan and fields around Braemoray. Golden eagle, hen harrier, peregrine, merlin, short and long-eared owls, capercaillie, black grouse, crested tit, Scottish crossbill, black and red-throated divers, Slavonian grebe and many more birds of note can all be seen locally.

Other local tourist attractions include distilleries (Glenmorangie, Dalmore), historic castles (Dunrobin, Cawdor, Urquhart), museums, Tain Pottery, Anta Fearn, Black Rock Gorge, Falls of Shin, Rogie Falls, Black Isle Wildlife & Country Park, Highland Wildlife Park, Loch Ness Visitor Centre, Loch Ness Exhibition Centre, Landmark Centre (Carrbridge), Cairngorm Railway (Aviemore).
