Garden Cottage, Isle of Scalpay between Applecross Peninsula and Isle of Skye

What could be a more perfect holiday retreat then staying on a private island off the west coast of Scotland? This idyllic holiday cottage is situated on the Isle of Scalpay, which is located between the Isle of Skye and the Applecross Peninsula. It is an ideal haven if you want to escape from the pace of everyday life and want a totally different holiday experience. There are 200 acres of pretty woodland, lochs, burns, hills and 14 miles of shoreline to explore on this quiet and secluded island.

Garden Cottage is in the gardens of Scalpay House and has been totally refurbished and now provides gorgeous, luxury holiday accommodation for 4 (the 2 bedrooms each have an ensuite). The views over Broadford Bay are magnificent and the cottage is set right by the sea. It is totally tranquil (there are only 4 other houses on the island) and the wildlife and birds are amazing. The birdwatching is excellent in front of the cottage as a huge variety of migratory birds come to feed and nest on Scalpay in the summer. This is a truly unique and fabulous holiday cottage on a perfect west coast island.

Most visitors don't leave the Isle of Scalpay and are happy to spend their holiday walking, bird-watching, swimming, enjoying picnics by the sea and generally relaxing in total peace and quiet. However the Isle of Skye is easily visited and there are lots of things to do and see on the island - castles, music festivals, local arts and crafts, and climbing and walking in the Cuillins. You can arrange to be picked up by boat from Scalpay to go on a sealife adventure, and hopefully spot a whale or a school of dolphins. Skye has some internationally famous restaurants including Lady Claire Macdonald's Kinloch Lodge and the Three Chimneys.

Accommodation: This idyllic holiday retreat on an isolated island offers beautiful accommodation (all on the ground floor). It has been totally refurbished and has tasteful, modern furnishings and is very well equipped. The two pretty twin bedrooms both have ensuites (one is a shower-room and one a bathroom). The spacious kitchen/dining room and sitting room is open plan and has a wood burning stove - ideal for cosy evenings in front of a fire. This is really luxurious accommodation in a perfect setting by the sea. Getting Here: The last part of the journey to Isle of Scalpay is by private boat, by arrangement. Nearest Airport: 90 miles - Inverness Airport (2 hrs drive). There is also an airstrip at Broadford on Skye (but no scheduled flights). By road: From the Skye Bridge turn right towards Portree and follow the A87 to Broadford. What's included: All linen and towels are provided. Well-behaved dogs are welcome - £10/week. Cost and availability: The cottage is rented April to Oct inclusive (other times by arrangement). Property rental periods are generally a week, Saturday to Saturday.
