Banchor Cottage Cawdor Castle, Nairn

So many holiday cottages are described as luxurious but this one really is! Tastefully furnished and in an amazing situation above the River Findhorn this is a superb holiday house. The log fires in the sitting room and dining room add to the ambience, and the secluded site and beautiful views make it a perfect setting for a Scottish holiday hideaway.

The cottage is on the beautiful Cawdor Castle estate, and the castle itself is just 9 miles away. The fairy-tale castle is open to the public from May to Oct and is obviously a 'must see' if you are renting this cottage! Cawdor Castle gardens are equally stunning - three different gardens and all visually and horticulturally glorious. The conservation village of Cawdor is very attractive and has an excellent shop, post office and pub, which serves very good food.

There is so much to do in the area - lovely walks, distilleries to tour, castles to visit, sandy beaches at Nairn, skiing at Aviemore - but many visitors just come to relax and getaway from it all. If you want to fish on the River Findhorn then you might want to rent the Banchor Beat, which runs through the wooded gorge below the holiday cottage. It is a very lovely and exciting stretch of the Findhorn and some large salmon have been caught here. Golf courses are also plentiful in the area - lovely links courses at Nairn as well as Cawdor Castle's own 9-hole course.

 

Accommodation:
Banchor Cottage is a beautifully furnished holiday cottage between Nairn and Aviemore, with glorious views over the River Findhorn below. There is a separate sitting room and dining room, both with log fires - perfect for relaxing in after a day out expoloring the highland countryside. The modern kitchen is fully fitted with everything you need in a luxury holiday cottage, and has the benefit of a dining area.

There are three good-sized bedrooms (the double is on the ground floor, and 2 twins upstairs). Downstairs is a modern bathroom (with a shower over the bath) and there is an additional WC and basin upstairs. The house has central heating throughout so it is a warm place to stay even in the winter - the open fires are a lovely focal point. The telephone is a useful extra in a holiday house (the owner will bill clients after their stay by credit card against the itemised bill). The large garden has outdoor table and chairs so you can eat outside on warm summer days.

Directions:
By Air:
Inverness is the nearest airport and is 18 miles away.

By Rail:
Inverness has a mainline station with direct trains from the south. Nairn (14 miles away) also has a station.

By Road:
Cawdor Castle is well sign posted on all major routes. If coming from the south on the A9, turn off it before Inverness on to the B9006. This brings you past Culloden battlefield, and on to a junction at Clephanton, approx 9 miles. Turn right on to B9090, which brings you to Cawdor Village (1 mile) and follow the signs to Cawdor Castle.

All bed linen and towels and heating fuel are included in the rental price. *A complimentary ticket for 2 adults to visit Cawdor Castle will be included for each booking (this is only during the time the castle is open to the public) and an invitation will be left in the cottage at the commencement of each booking.

Cost and availability.
The cottage is rented out all year round. Change over day is Sunday.
Rental periods are generally a week - although short breaks are welcome off season (min 3 nights). Checking in time is 4pm and checking out is 10am.
