Templand Cottage Thornhill, Dumfries & Galloway

Templand Cottage is part of a group of 6 luxury cottages, carefully converted from attractive old farm buildings. This is a very historic farm as the great 19th century writer Thomas Carlyle married Jane Welsh here. Dumfries is a wonderful part of Scotland for a holiday: from the cottage you can walk through the beautiful valleys and watch the abundant wildlife (including red squirrels).

A major attraction of the cottage is an indoor swimming pool, sauna, games room and children's play area - there are also bicycles to borrow free of charge. There is so much to do you may not want to leave your cottage!

  

Dumfries & Galloway is a very beautiful, rural part of Scotland and the holiday cottages are set admidst open fields, with gorgeous views. It is a very unspoilt area and there are far fewer tourists here then in most of the rest of Scotland. There is so much to see and do in the area - Drumlanrig Castle, Maxwellton House (home of Annie Laurie), Caerlaverock Castle, and the stunning Solway Coast. Robert Burns lived in the area and there are many places to visit associated with him. The local village of Thornhill is very attractive and has a good range of shops and restaurants.

Accommodation:
The holiday cottage has a lovely master bedroom upstairs with an ensuite shower-room. Downstairs is a twin bedded room and one with bunk beds (these are only suitable for children - who love them!). The spacious sitting room has a dining area and a wood-burning stove. The kitchen is modern and well equipped and the downstairs bathroom has a bath and shower.

The heated swimming pool and sauna are housed in an attractive log cabin and are available for the 6 cottages to use. The games room has a pool table and table tennis table; and there are lots of bicycles for guests to borrow. There is a lovely garden with a BBQ area and garden furniture - perfect for relaxing outdoors.

Directions:
Templand Cottage is in the Nithsdale Valley north of Dumfries, a few miles off the A76.

What's included:
All bed linen and towels are provided. Electricity is included.

Cost and availability.
The cottage is rented out year round. Short breaks are welcome off-season (3 nights min).
Rental peroids are generally Saturday-Saturday; arrival 4pm and departure by 11am. Prices are for the whole cottage for the week.
