The Hayloft is set in beautiful and unspoilt countryside on the eastern fringe of the Ochil hills, overlooking the Howe of Fife and towards the two stunning peaks of East and West Lomond. Stepping out of the door, one accesses directly some of the best walking in Fife, including the nearby Pitmedden Forest, and this is also an excellent area for cycling. A wealth of wildlife is to be seen around the property and further afield: roe deer, foxes and badgers, hare and rabbit, buzzards, sparrow hawks and most excitingly, the recently released sea eagles with their eight foot wingspan, often to be seen being mobbed by the smaller birds which are in abundance.

Fife's star attraction is of course its golf courses; the world famous courses of St Andrews are less than 30 minutes drive, whilst closer by and highly rated are Ladybank and Scotscraig (Open qualifying courses). There are swimming pools in local towns, with big leisure pools with special features in Perth, Dundee and Kirkcaldy. Riding and tennis are easily arranged nearby, as are fishing and shooting.

Situated less than 20 minutes from the M90, visitors to the Hayloft can access major tourist attractions in under half an hour - in Perth (Scone Palace, Concert Hall and The Fergusson Gallery), Dundee (The historic Discovery and Unicorn ships, Verdant Works, Sensation Science Centre, Repertory Theatre and Glamis Castle), Dunfermline (Abbey), Kirkcaldy (Art Gallery, Ice Rink) and St Andrews (The Castle, Cathedral, Sea Life Centre, Byre Theatre, harbour and beaches). Forty five minutes away are the delights of the East Neuk with its picturesque fishing villages, Fisheries Museum and the ever popular seaside resort of Elie - known for its watersports. Walkers will enjoy the Fife Coastal Path which passes through these towns, stretching from the Forth Road Bridge to St Andrews.

A visit to the capital is less than an hour by car, or more easily by train from the nearby station in Ladybank. Edinburgh offers a host of historical, architectural, cultural and gastronomic delights and a visit is essential for most visitors. The nearby town of Falkland is a delightful place to spend a day, with its Palace and the only open air Royal Tennis Court in the world, stunning gardens and quaint little houses with a strong Flemish influence and some excellent pubs and restaurants make this well worth a visit.

In addition to Falkland Palace, Fife boasts two further historic houses owned by the National Trust for Scotland, the nearby Hill of Tarvit and towards the East Neuk, Kellie Castle. A reminder of the cold war, The Secret Bunker between St Andrews and Anstruther is well worth a visit too. There is so much to see and do in Fife!

A decent sized hall and storage cupboard on the ground floor, lead up an attractive staircase to the main living area. With its south facing French window, skylights and other windows, this is a lovely light room for sitting, eating and cooking. A passageway leads out of here down a corridor where the two bedrooms and bathroom (with bath and shower above) are situated.

There is an outside patio area with barbecue, but guests are welcome to wander in the grounds of the main house.

Directions:
The Hay Loft (at Greenlaw House) is situated on the B937 between the A91 - St Andrews to Stirling road and the A913 Bridge of Earn to Cupar road. It is approximately 10 miles from Junction 8 on the M90, 4 miles from Auchtermuchty and 6 miles from Cupar.

If approaching from the south turn off the A91 at the Trafalgar junction - a big staggered crossroads, taking the B937 northwards signed Lindores and Newburgh without entering Collessie. After exactly a mile, you will see a turn to the right marked with a tall white sign for a public footpath to Collessie and then Braeside, take this and follow the drive over the railway bridge up the hill past two other houses until you get to Greenlaw House and the Hay Loft to the right at the top with a wall and metal gate.

Coming from the north, turn off the A913 at Lindores, follow the road past the loch for about 1.75 miles round a few bends; you will see a road off to your right marked by white painted stones, the Braeside turning is about 100 yds after that on your left with signage as above.
