The East Neuk of Fife is studded with historic picturesque fishing villages. It is a haven for artists due to the clarity of light and colour. Inland, the scenery is rolling and agricultural and the area is fringed by the Fife Coastal Path, a favourite for walkers.

The garden gate from Grannies Links opens onto the second tee of Anstruther Golf Course which has ownership of Britain's hardest par 3 as voted by Today's Golfer in 2007. The whole area can only be described as 'A Golfer's Paradise'. There are a range of courses to choose from with the championship course at Kingsbarns and St Andrews, the traditional home of golf, only a 15 minute drive away. St Andrews is a fascinating historic town with Scotland's oldest university as well as 7 stunning golf courses including the world famous Royal and Ancient, host to the British Open.

The area is blessed with fine sandy beaches including a lovely Yellow Flag beach just 5 minutes walk away, those at St Andrews, which stretch for over a mile and Elie which is one of Scotland's best kept secrets. Another secret of Fife is Scotland's Secret Bunker built for the evacuation of Government officials in the event of a nuclear war - it is now a popular tourist attraction.

The yachting marina in Anstruther allows sailors to enjoy their sport or onlookers to watch the boats come and go from the harbour. Fishing trips are available to catch mackerel and even cod, further afield. Boat trips sail regularly to the Isle of May to view the bird life and seals on this sanctuary, and also the puffins which are in abundance during in May and June. Anstruther harbour was at one time a thriving fishing port for the herring industry and a visit to the award-winning Fisheries Museum will give you a taste of life in the village in days gone by.

Other recreational activities in the area include tennis, sailing, fishing, canoeing, abseiling and go-karting. The beautiful National Trust property of Kellie Castle is nearby with an outstanding walled garden. Here, interesting art and music events are held throughout the year and another NTS property not too far away is Falkland Palace. One of the art highlights of the area is The Pittenweem Arts Festival hosting one hundred artists both local and visiting.
