Plovermuir Cottage is situated on the north side of the Vale of Strathmore in Angus overlooking Glamis and the Sidlaw Hills. Just a mile away is Kirriemuir locally known as the Wee Red Toon, the birthplace of J.M. Barrie and absolutely central to everything there is to see and do in the county of Angus and beyond. To the north only a few minutes drive are the Angus Glens of Prosen, Clova and Isla. Glenisla leads on into Glen Shee with its ski area from where the road continues to Braemar and Royal Deeside.

Forfar, the county town, is 5 miles away where you can see the county buildings, good quality shops, the monthly farmers' market, museum and livestock markets every Wednesday and Saturday. Up the A94 dual carriageway to Brechin where you could continue to Aberdeen or turn off to Edzell and go up Glen Esk or on to Fettercairn and its famous distillery. Across to Montrose on the coast there is a wildfowl reserve on Montrose Basin and an interesting harbour. South from Montrose, Lunan Bay has wonderful sand dunes and mile long beaches with a good parking area. Further down the coast is the fishing town of Arbroath with its harbour and of course the world famous Arbroath smokies.

Popular attractions in the area include Glamis Castle, Captain Scott's Discovery ship in Dundee and National Trust properties include House of Dun, Angus Folk Musuem, J.M. Barrie's birthplace, Kirriemuir Camera Obscura and Barry Mill. For the energetic there are the hills and glens for walking or hill climbing of various degrees of difficulty. For the golfer there is an abundance of good quality courses. Only half an hour away is the famous links course at Carnoustie which has hosted the Open Championship on six occasions. Closer at hand you can play a round of golf at Kirriemuir, Alyth, Glen Isla and Strathmore with many more courses throughout the county. Fishing is available on the rivers Isla, Ericht, Tay and South Esk, or on Rescobie Loch or even sea fishing from Arbroath.

Dundee, the City of Discovery, and the Fair City of Perth are both only half an hour away or St Andrews in Fife and Blair Atholl in Perthshire just a little further. Or why not just stay at Plovermuir and enjoy the tranquility!
