Capercaillie Cabin Aboyne, Royal Deeside |
|
Capercaillie Cabin is set in the heart of Royal Deeside in the spectacular woodland estate of Blelack, adjacent to the Cairngorm National Park. It is located within walking distance of the village of Logie Coldstone in the Highlands of Scotland. It sits at the foot of Morven - meaning "big hill". The Cabin is sustainably designed, built and fuelled and offers occupants a unique but luxurious experience of green living. Your neighbours will be roe and red deer and do not be too surprised to awaken to see red squirrels feeding on the nuts which we encourage you to leave out for them. If you are very fortunate, your morning alarm call could be the shrill but unmistakable shriek of the Capercaillie, one of the rarest birds in the United Kingdom and Europe.
The Cabin provides a platform from which many local attractions can be explored, and yet is situated in a tranquil woodland setting that allows you also to do nothing at all except enjoy the peace and quiet. It is an ideal base for the serious and pleasure walker alike. For those who are accompanied by 'man's best friend' the estate offers a range of circular routes over a variety of terrains with mostly sandy going which is therefore suitable for all dog types. Should you wish to bring your horses, please contact the owners for more information.
There are several local golf courses offering excellent all year golf for all standards. For the more adventurous there is the opportunity to try gliding at the nearby gliding centre or even water skiing locally. Pony trekking is available at various locations including the Glentanar and Balmoral Estates. Both Aboyne and Ballater are within 10 miles of Logie Coldstone and they house an abundance of quality restaurants and tourist attractions as well as ample opportunity to purchase quality local fare for cooking upon your return to the Cabin. During the winter, skiing is possible from either the Lecht or Glenshee ski centres, with the Cairngorms accessible also.
Capercaillie Cabin is available for both week, weekend and short breaks in the beautiful countryside that Queen Victoria loved so much, and the present Royal Family still enjoys.

Accommodation:
Capercaillie Cabin is situated in a peaceful location within the woodlands of the Blelack Estate. The Cabin has been specifically designed to allow the occupants to have privacy and to be able to interact with the wildlife which surrounds it. Designed to an extremely high standard, the Cabin frontage comprises wooden decking complete with a barbeque. This makes a superb location to enjoy cooking, dining and drinking 'al fresco' in your own unique woodland hideaway.
Once inside, the hall area has sufficient space for four people to leave all their coats and boots. The large and spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area is furnished with a top of the range wooden suite and luxurious leather sofas. The wood-burning stove sits in the corner of the room but provides the heart of the Cabin. It is here that the family or friends can sit and unwind or take advantage of the DVD selection or Freesat TV. The wood-burning stove via an integral back boiler heats a hot water circuit that supplies the radiators which are located throughout the Cabin with piping hot water. All the fuel for the stove is locally and sustainably resourced from the Estate. Utilising 2011 building regulations and going beyond compliance of its thermal requirements, the owners believe that they are probably one of the greenest providers of holiday accommodation in Scotland.
The double and single bedrooms have blissfully comfortable beds which will ensure that you have an excellent night's sleep and can wake refreshed and ready to start the next day's activities or perhaps to simply sit, relax and enjoy a peace and tranquillity you have only dreamt about.
Directions:
To get to Capercaillie Cabin take North Deeside road along through the famous towns and villages that make up Deeside. Proceed through Banchory, Kincardine O' Neil, Aboyne and on to Dinnet. Between Aboyne and Dinnet you will be informed that you are entering both the Cairngorms and the Highlands of Scotland by virtue of two inscriptions on two rocks.
As you enter Dinnet you will encounter the first of three brown tourist road signs which will help you find Cairngorm Lodges. After that it is simple: right turn at Dinnet (sign posted Huntly, Logie Coldstone and the The Lecht ski centre) here you will find another brown tourist sign pointing to Cairngorm Lodges 4 miles from this junction.
Proceed on to Logie Coldstone. As you approach the village there are two 30 mile an hour road signs that you can see simultaneously. Cairngorm Lodges main entrance is situated in to the right between the signs.
