The Elms, Kelso, Scottish Borders
This edinburgh accommodation review is due to expire:
The Scottish Borders is one of Scotland's best kept secrets, renowned for its turbulent history, fishing, rugby, golf, beautiful landscape and friendly people. The area is a paradise for walkers, cyclist and golfers, while in the River Tweed and its many tributaries, you'll find some of the best fishing in Scotland.
Whether you explore by car, on bike or on foot, you'll discover friendly towns and picturesque villages, as well as the castles, abbeys, stately homes and museums that illustrate the exciting and often bloody history of the area. To the north, within easy driving distance is the beautiful city of Edinburgh; to the south the world heritage site of Hadrian's Wall; and to the east the rugged Northumberland and East Lothian coastline.
Based in Kelso you are in the heartland of the Borders and within a short drive to the other well known Borders towns of Jedburgh, Coldstream, Melrose and Hawick. Kelso is arguably the prettiest town in the Borders with cobbled streets and a large market place. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants to sample Scottish hospitality and many interesting shops to browse. Within walking distance is Floors Castle, Kelso Race Course, Kelso golf course and Springwood Park home to the Border Union agricultural show and many other events throughout the year. You'll never be lost for things to do and see in the Borders.
