This lovely cottage is situated one mile south of Blackwaterfoot, on the west coast of the Isle of Arran. Lying in the grounds of a family home, the cottage is surrounded by extensive gardens and has its own entrance and parking area. The self-catering accommodation was a former steading which has recently been converted to a very high standard, and is equipped with all the facilities you will need for a relaxing stay. Named after the nearby burn of the same name, Gille Ghagaich Cottage is an ideal place from which to explore the beautiful coastline and rugged hills of the Isle of Arran. The owners of the cottage also own a salmon/sea trout spate river, which can be let by separate arrangement.
The Isle of Arran, often known as "Scotland in Minature", is easily accessible by car ferry from both the Ayrshire coast (55 minutes) and from Argyll (25 minutes). It is a wildlife paradise with numerous species of birds to be seen both in the mountains and on the sea shore, as well as colonies of seals, basking sharks, dolphins and porpoise. Arran is also known as a golfer's paradise with seven courses within easy reach of the property including a "top 100" course at Blackwaterfoot. There are mountains to climb and coastal areas to explore, while the more adventurous may try gorge walking, quad biking or take a high-speed boat trip around the island. Arran has many places of historical interest to visit including bronze age stone circles and Brodick Castle, 11 miles from the cottage. There is a distillery, a brewery, as well as being the home of Arran Aromatics, Arran Provisions and the Island Cheese Company. There is even a health spa!

Accommodation:
Gille Ghagaich is a two-storey cottage, situated in the grounds of Achavoulin House and surrounded by extensive gardens with spectacular rhododendrons and azaleas. It has its own entrance and parking space, and garden furniture and children's sandpit and slide outside. The ground floor consists of an entrance lobby, a sitting room with an open log fire, a well equipped kitchen/breakfast room, and a shower room/wc/drying room. On the first floor there is a twin bedroom with an ensuite w/c and shower, and another bedroom with three beds and an ensuite bathroom.
What's included:
Bed linen, electricity, initial supply of logs for fire (therafter £5 a bag). Towels are not provided, nor cot bedding.
Directions
By road, head for Blackwaterfoot. Gille Ghagaich is 1.5 miles south of Blackwaterfoot, off the Lagg Road. The cottage is 1/4 mile up a shared tarmac road.
Cost and availability.
This Arran holiday cottage is available to rent all year round, apart from Christmas and New Year.
Changeover day is Sunday; check in 4pm, check out 10 am.
Weekend and short breaks available off season.
